Stone and Glass Walkway |
In establishing this walkway, we have included buildings that have special features of stone and glass in Oamaru. The buildings in the central part of town are in easy walking distance. They are:

Columba Presbyterian Church |
Columba Church is one of the most magnificent buildings you come across in our walkway. Its majestic exterior pillars make the entire journey worthwhile. The interior of the building is well kept by voluntary work. Make sure you go to see this building even though it's at the end. |

Waitaki Boy's Hall of Memories |
The Waitaki Boy's Hall of Memories was built in 1927. The builders were D. Sinclair and the Winsley Brothers. The stone work was by A. Smith. The structure is of Oamaru stone in perpendicular Gothic or Tudor. A feature of the interior is the pipe organ, installed at the cost of six thousand dollars. The foundation stone was laid on the 1st of November 1923, and the official opening was performed by HRH The Duke of York (later King George the VI) on 16th of March 1927. |

St Paul's Presbyterian Church |
St Paul's Presbyterian Church was opened on the 20th February 1876. It was constructed of Oamaru stone from Anderson's Cave Valley Quarries at a cost of 6000 pounds. St Paul's has a magnificent collection of stained glass windows too detailed to describe. The architect was Thomas Forrester and the stone masons were Miller and Co. This building is truly beautiful and is worth a visit. |

St Patrick's Basilica |
St Patrick's Basilica is constructed of Oamaru stone. The Basilica follows the pattern of the large, roofed buildings used by the Romans for public purposes. The foundation stone was laid on Trinity Sunday, 1893, by Bishop Moran. The Basilica was opened on 18th November 1894, by Bishop Grimes. The architect of the this building was Francis W. Petre. |

The Art Gallery |
This Gallery is one of the country's finest historic limestone buildings and houses a growing collection of art works significant to the North Otago Region. This building was designed by R. A. Lawson, and was originally the Bank of New South Wales when it opened in 1884. The building was officially opened as an Art Gallery 1893. |

St Luke's Anglican Church |
St Luke's was the first in Oamaru to be built out of Oamaru Stone. The church started to get built in 1865 and was built in three stages. It was designed by Messrs Rumsey and Jackson. The Conacher pipe organ was installed in 1876, which is eleven years after the church started to get built. Stained glass windows in the church tell stories from the bible and are dedicated to people who worshipped at St Luke's. |
