This track is very steep
and uphill most of the way. It has lots of little obstacles that you need
to overcome ,such as tree roots, streams to cross, bush to climb through
and arrows to follow in the pine trees. The Skyline Walkway has a lot of
natural bush, flowers, animals and insects that also add extra incentive
to go there.
The Glen Warren Street Reserve features all of the above and more – it
adds native and attractive features to the walk. Even though there are
very steep hills to climb and you may want to collapse, don't because
once you see the beautiful views, it will be all
worthwhile – once you reach the top, you will want to do it all
over again. At some points of the track you can see the whole of Oamaru.
On the walk, you also pass the Astronomical Society's Observatory, which
is open at certain dates of the year and is worth going to if you are
around at
the time it is open.
This walk is a good source of exercise for most ages but could be
difficult for some people with limited mobility.
The walk is well marked so you are unlikely to get lost, but if you do,
ask one of the friendly locals who are always willing to help.
The track is well maintained by the Department of Conservation and Waitaki
District Council, so you won't have to worry about your safety.
