Military Memorial Walkway

The Military Memorial is a glorious walk that will take you to various war memorials in Oamaru. You can remember all the people who died in World War I and World War II. You can reflect on all the people who gave up their lives for us.

The military track is quite a steep track, so make sure you wear good footwear. It is a long track. It takes two to two and a half hours to complete. It is a 1 km walk. You are close to the town centre at all times. It is suitable for scooters, bikes, cars, wheel chairs, walking a dog, walking/running and anything with wheels.

There are a lot of natural features, such as flowers in the Garden of Memories, impressive oak trees lining Severn Street, and magnificent views of the township and Harbour of Oamaru. Other features include war memorials in the centre of town to remind you of the people in the Boer and World War One who died for us. The walkway then crosses up Severn Street and to a cannon and gun emplacement at the Lookout Point. At the cemetery there are the graves of people who died in the war. This allows us to reflect on our soldiers who tragically died defending our country.
